OUR FACILITY

Blackhills Camp is located in the scenic hills of north central West Virginia, 10 miles southeast of Morgantown. The camp property includes approximately seven acres of wooded land atop a beautiful mountain in Taylor County. 150 people can be accommodated in a variety of lodging facilities, including dorms, cabins, family dorms, rustic 'huts', and RV camping sites. The dining hall can accommodate 125 people at one seating and the Tabernacle can seat 300.

OUR HISTORY

Blackhills Camp began in the 1940s with a vision from a few pastors of the Fairmont District of the Pittsburgh Free Methodist Conference. The property, donated by Rev. John MacDonald, has been slowly transformed over the years into the existing facility. While the Tabernacle was constructed in the early days of Blackhills Camp, the only lodging and dining facilities were tents for many years. For many years, only a summer family camp was held at Blackhills. During the 1960s, a weekend Youth Retreat was added during Laborday weekend. About 15 years ago, both a full Teen and Children's camp was added to the summer schedule at Blackhills.

LOCAL CHURCH PROGRAMS

Over the years, Blackhills has hosted numerous day, overnight and weekend activities for many area churches and groups.

LARGE GROUPS

In order to better accommodate our camping programs, and to allow for expanded use, we would like to construct a lodge to accommodate meetings of 150 and add additional lodging for 50.

SMALL GROUPS

In order to provide meeting space and accommodations for small to medium size groups thought out the year, we would like to winterize certain existing facilities as well as make the new lodge flexible in the size of meetings it can accommodate.

Infrastructure

Many components of the existing infrastructure need updated or in some cases replaced. Upgrades to the infrastructure are crucial to future plans.

“….Blackhills Camp has been a very special place in my walk with God. It’s always been the spiritual highlight of my year. I truly believe there is something very special and holy about that mountain top.”
